Texas Butcher Supply as established in 1898. At that time, we sold butcher supplies, seasonings, knives and the like to small "Mom and Pop" grocery stores.
In 1935, G.W. Hooker moved to Dallas to take over the Toledo Scale Agency. He bought the name Texas Butcher Supply, selling scales, grinders, and other supplies.
In 1947, Mr. Hooker fell ill and asked his future son-in-law, J.R. Gilpin, to come help run the business. Russ rearranged his class schedule at SMU, and worked Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday at Texas Butcher Supply.
By 1948, Mr. Hooker began offering refrigeration equipment and service alongside his food equipment business.
Mr. Hooker decided to retire in 1962. On April 1st of that year, Russ and his good friend Sam Owen pooled their resources, and began operating Texas Butcher Supply & Equipment Co. as partners.
In 1969, Russ and Sam moved the business to 2800 Commerce Street, and changed our name to Texas Refrigeration, Butcher Supply and Equipment Co., Inc., where we operate today.
